Welcome to IPaintWhatISee.com, Marc Clamage's art page and journal. "I paint what I see" reflects my personal approach to painting, representation. I paint what I see, only what I see, only with it right in front of me, only while I'm looking right at it. I do not work from photographs, or imagination, or memory, or even from sketches. I paint exclusively from life. The essence of representation is that every choice, every brushstroke must be made in direct response to the artist's experience of visual reality.

Please click the active links below. I'm especially proud of my "Panhandlers" project, a series of oil portraits of the homeless in Harvard Square. This project was featured in a Boston Globe Magazine piece.
