Lately I've been experimenting with older, rejected techniques. For instance, for the last 30 odd years I've painted on a white ground, eschewing the perfectly respectable imprimatura approach used here on the theory that such paintings are about light, rather than color. However, you'll note that I haven't had the opportunity to paint many nudes in the past few years, so I've been taking advantage of the long pose at Kate's weekly drawing session. It's only a forty minute pose and I've felt my efforts have been just a little too sketchy; hence this re-exploration of an academic technique. I may try a darker ground next time. |
